Positano Vs Amalfi - Which Town Should You Base Yourself In The Amalfi Coast?
Do you want to visit the most celebrated area in Southern Italy? Good news! You`ll be visiting one of the most memorable coastlines in the entire world - and you definitely won`t forget the incredible memories you make there!
The Amalfi Coast is made up of several towns nestled along the Southern Italian Coastline. These towns include Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and Praiano. Many people want to stay a few stays in either Amalfi or Positano. But they are very different from each other.
So where should you stay? Here are some things you should know before you decide.
Benefits of Amalfi
Many people get confused since the coast includes several towns - but one of these is the town of Amalfi. It is can be found right in the middle of the coastbetween Positano and Salerno.
It`s a quaint town with it`s own seafront promenade and several winding alleyways where you can tour, shop and savor a gelato.
Or you can visit the the country`s oldest church, the Cattedrale di Sant’ Andrea. This is a 9th Century Cathedral that is situated at the top of a stunning flight of wide stairs, which overseas the Piazza del Duomo. Although the town is packed with vacationers during the day, you will still enjoy calm-quiet at night.
One other advantage to Amalfi is that there is a central bus hub right out front by the beach. So you can grab a bus to Positano or visit any of the other Amalfi towns.
Visiting Positano
Positano is very special as it is built upwards vertically into the cliffs and cascades down to the ocean. This makes for an unforgettable view.
Where Amalfi is a throwback in time, Positano is romantic.Positano is also a little more private mainly because the main buses can only pass through the top of the town - they can`t actually get down through the main walking area. You`re more likely to see a movie star in Positano than in Amalfi.
Besides celebrity watching, Positano also offers incredible food and enchanting views. You can also visit the 13th Century Church of Santa Maria Assunta, which is a stone`s throw away from one of the largest beaches on the Amalfi Coast.
You can also take one of the hydrofoil boats and visit the isle of Capri or visit the Green Grotto.
The only real downside to positano hotel reviews is that there`s less space for building than Amalfi and there are fewer hotels. So places to stay tend to fill up very fast months in advance.
In summary those are some differences between the towns of Amalfi and Positano. Which is right for you? It`s really up to you. But why not do a few days in both? They both have very unique benefits and are both definitely worth seeing.
